as for people with money problems, you cant be blamed. Me too ive been in a phase where i couldnt buy anything from the internet and so on (either because no money or no possibility to buy stuff online) but right now we are only asking to make sentai and co. notice that people want an official gintama release. we are not asking people to buy it, i mean its not even out yet. We only need everyone to sacrifice 5 minutes and make sentai and co. considering to release the new gintama movie.
To be fair, Sentai needs to make a profit otherwise they have no reason to release a show. We can make a lot of noise, but my guess, based on Sentai's lack of announcement and action, is that Gintama isn't as profitable as Sentai would've liked. I wish I had numbers to convince others and myself as to whether we should keep pushing or give up, but unfortunately those numbers aren't public.
There'll always be people who can't afford DVD/BD, and there's nothing we can do about it. If most of the fandom can't afford it (in the sense that they want
to but are truly poorer than Madao, not that they have the money but don't want to spend it for whatever obscure reason), then we just have to accept the unfortunate outcome that we'll get no official release. To every single person reading this:
If you live in DVD region 1 or BD region A/1 and
you haven't bought any of Sentai's Gintama release and
you want to watch the 2nd movie and
you need English translation and
you're not Madao, you need to buy at least the Sentai Benizakura release. (If one or more of the conditions don't apply to you, well, move along, nothing to see here.) After you have Sentai's release in your hand, tell Sentai your interest in the 2nd movie. More importantly, tell your friends, family, random strangers on the street and at a con, SPREAD THE WORD.
Where are the retweets
and more retweets
? Where are the reblogs
? Where are the con reports
? More about Gintama panels or meet-ups and less about Sentai. Share it on Facebook, Google+, ANN, MAL, CR, wherever else you go. There are at least 300 people
in this fandom and almost 1000 on this forum. C'mon people. Increase this number by a factor of 10, 100, more. This is something YOU CAN DO.
And thank you for those of you who have helped. Every little bit counts.
If you want to find out more about Sentai's perspective, here's a brief exchange I had with them back in September:
Dear Sentai Filmworks,
Thank you for releasing the first Gintama season and the first Gintama movie in North America. As you may know, the second Gintama movie was recently released in the Japanese theaters. In your opinion, what can English-speaking fans such as myself do to improve the chances of a future release of the second Gintama movie in North America? Is there anything the fans can do as a group, or is it more effective for us to express interest to you individually?
Just keep doing what you’re doing……supporting the property and telling your friends about what a great show it is.
I debated for a long time whether or not to share this, but well, here it is.
