Sentai Filmworks Gintama DVD Discussion
« on: March 22, 2010, 02:16:40 am »
Out on April 27.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035ZZ9OE/ref=s9_simh_gw_p74_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0Z2ZRB31GTNEF1REAFJT&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

You can find bits of the kanji for "Gintama" in the cover as well. The red stroke below the English "Gin Tama" logo is part of a larger version of 銀. On the first image below (click on spoiler button), I think there's a white-colored version of 銀 on top of the half-transparent red one. Just compare it all.

Well spotted! It does look like 魂.
It's a cool cover overall but I think something is missing... Somehow it doesn't have that Gintama feel to it.
Anyway, about the release specs: this first volume includes two DVDs with the first 13 episodes and has no English dubs. Even though I always prefer the original Japanese version, I kinda wanted to see how would they manage to be as funny as the original dubbing cas.
t
Also, for everyone that's hoping to buy this collection, save your allowance to June, the second DVD is due to the 29th, retail price $49.98, though you probably will get a better price from Amazon or Best Buy ; )

I ended up buying it at RightStuf just a moment ago. It was cheaper for where I lived anyway. Ah, well, I wonder if they used the titles from the manga. No extras as far as I know, but I'll still be "dissecting" it (in a good way, I promise!) to have something to post about.

The second DVD is finally up and so is the cover. Sorry about the quality but I couldn't find better for the time being.

As expected now it's the time for the rest of the Yorozuya to make an appearance on the cover. The background remains the same while the images where taken out of of a poster. I was kinda expecting them to use other poses but I guess they managed to show viewers a little of Kagura and Shinpachi's personalities.

You can buy the second DVD on the afore mentioned websites.
All hail the Shinsengumi!

OK, I did it, I received it in the mail. I'm supporting the series, right!? And now I can't make myself take off the plastic...

I was thinking it'd spruce things up a bit if the pattern on the cover was a different color each time. That same picture of Kagura and Shinpachi are on the back of the first dvd set too. You know what'd be cool, is if whatever's on the back of the second one appears on the cover for the third, etc. just like the manga volumes.

It's too bad this second set is more expensive for the same number of episodes.

The cover of the 3rd volume is up:

Katsura and Elizabeth in the middle of the Shinsengumi... well, I understood their point but it still looks weird...

Either way, this DVD is due December the 28th, you can buy they at the usual websites.
All hail the Shinsengumi!

The prices haven't gone down though. I was pleased to find out the 4th dvd's coming out on February 22nd. Only 10 episodes this time and the cover's got the rest of the characters. Sakamoto deserves a bigger picture! :(

Wow, you guys are still on the old system!? 8O We've been getting 13 episode sets here in the US for a while now. It depends on the series but they range from $25-$45 thereabouts. Is it still airing on MTV over there?

I just hope Sentai keeps releasing more. The ratings on Amazon are pretty positive, but I have no idea how well sales are. O_O

No, they've done only the first series, and the second in DVD. Gintama was on TV three-four years ago ;_;

Eh...english Gintama was horrible. or rather the english noises used were horrible...
If you can't get the original or the subbed then don't watch.
